81-540/541 is a model of metro electric trains, created in 1997 at the Vagonmash plant in Saint-Petersburg on the basis of 81-717/714 (“Numbers”). They are structurally identical to the 81-717.5М/714.5М wagons. On the basis of the basic model, the factory created many different modifications.
The main wagons received the designation 81-540, and the intermediate ones – 81-541.
Externally, the wagons practically do not differ from 81-717.5М/714.5М. The main difference is in the auto-management apparatus and АРС, specific for the St. Petersburg metro. In the cabins of the drivers, duplex radio communication is used with the dispatcher’s post, as well as with any of the wagons.
