After the Old Watchtower burned down, the Lowlanders left. Instead of rebuilding the keep, they opted to construct a new one further out west, far below on the lower slopes, closer to their own roads and villages. There they built a new tower and barracks for their men, there they declared the new headquarters for the guard, and there they directed the carts bringing food and weapons from the valley. Whatever the mountain guards, unwilling to abandon the wreckage of their ancient fort, wanted, they had to ride down to get themselves and haul back along the narrow paths.
The Lowlanders called it the White Watchtower.
The mountain people called it the Lowlanders’ Tower.
