As a result of their relative rarity, M Coupes (especially S54 powered models) retain much of their value. The M Coupe powered by the S54 engine is one of the lowest production BMWs with only 1,112 built in total for all markets. The Z3 coupe was given nicknames like “clown shoe” because of its distinctive styling.
That said, the value of a clean, original M Coupe might discourage owners from fussing with it. BMW only made 6291 Z3 M Coupes from the 1999 to 2002 model years. Of those, only 1112 have the later, higher-output, S54 engine, which accounts for a $22,800 premium over the earlier S52.
