Antoher artist gave me a render of a vehicle like this she had bought from an Internet site. At some point I made my own version from a long ago memory of the white roadster my friend and his wife had lowered modified engine into in their garge using a chain hoist. This one’s engine is the one I sold to my friend Kurt that he took to Williston’s to show me I did not need to put a Chevrolet V-8 into my car in 1957. The wheelbase on this one is almost six inches shorter than the 1934 and the body is 5 inches further back on the frame than the 1935 to give the bustle trunks of that later genre. To be timed on El Mirage you had to have a roadster. I made it to El Mirage in 1969 with two other guys on motorcycles. I made it up onto the Kern plateau where the stereo record I bought in 1965 “Bakersfield Smokers” was made and decades later when my uncle lived in Ocala I sat next to an example of an ultimate flathead in Don Garlit’s museum and had my picture taken.
