Renault is continuing the R5’s 50th anniversary celebrations with the R5 Turbo 3E concept, an exuberant electric version of the 1980s Turbo designed for racing enthusiasts. This 380 hp concept car will be exhibited at Chantilly Arts et Élégance, then at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. More than a restomod (restoration and modernization), the Turbo 3E concept is a unique vehicle designed from the R5 Turbo 2. The car has a tubular chassis that supports the 42 kWh lithium-ion battery housed in the center under the floor. This structure is dressed in a carbon fiber body.
More powerful than the R5 Turbo (160 hp in the road version, 350 hp in the Maxi Turbo racing version), the Turbo 3E is also more spectacular. It sports an aerodynamic kit including a front skirt and a rear spoiler so prominent that they increase its length to 4.01 m, compared to 3.66 m for an R5 Turbo. The same goes for the width, increased by 25 cm to reach 2.02 m by enlarged wings housing 19-inch solid rims at the front and 20-inch at the rear.
