This is a set of easily printed parts that can be used to make an adjustable mount for a phone that clamps onto a small PVC pipe, which in turn can be attached to a tripod. My purpose is to make a highly adjustable stand that can be used to record pictures, videos, and timelapses of art and DIY projects.

Phone clip is sized to fit my iPhone 5c. The device cross section is 9mm x 60mm.

Published as a public OnShape document titled Tripod Pipe Clamp.

Fun fact: the ball joint parts are compatible with RAM brand mounting hardware (see the photo with black clamp arms).

Update: Make clips for different size phones by clicking “Open in Customizer” and entering the dimensions. Thingiverse will generate the STL for you in a few minutes. Not quite as fancy as the Onshape version, but a little quicker/easier to customize.

Update, 2 Jan 2016: Added a Tripod_Ball.stl part for attaching the phone mount directly to a tripod without a pipe or the pipe clamp parts:

No

Resolution:

0.3 mm layers

All parts print without support. I used 3 perimeters, 3 top/bottom layers, and 10% Archimedian chord infill in Slic3r.

Assembly Hardware

Tripod clamp requires a 5mm ID nut to grip tripod bolt. Doesn’t get much bite with most tripods, so this is the weakest point in the whole kit. (I may redesign it.)

Tripod clamp requires two M3 bolts and nuts.

Ball clamp requires one M3 bolt and nut.

Ball clamp arms held together with a 5mm threaded rod and pair of wing nuts.

I use a length of scrap 1/2″ ID PVC pipe. The exterior diameter is actually about 21.5mm.

Of course you can use whatever hardware you have lying around. If you need different dimensions, copy the OnShape document and alter the dimensions.
