This is a controller mod for the Oculus Quest (One!)
Given years of playing counter strike and the shear size of a real life deagle, I thought: hey, the controllers should fit in nicely. So I looked for a decent model file (and found one), and melted it around the controller models.
Note: while the hilt is a tidbit thicker to accomodate the controller, and I had to reshape the hilt a bit to wrap around it, the size otherwise matches a real world Desert Eagle Mark XIX .50 AE pretty closely.
Fit in general is a bit loose, so you might need to add some material after printing (sheets of plastic for example) to create a tighter fit; depends on your printer, and on your games. I also used some cloth to soften the holes where the controllers sit.
Also note: you need to adjust the angle in-game, as the gun is slightly tilted. Most games have a parameter you can change; look for “Gun Pitch” in the settings.
The whole thing is split into four parts: front and back barrel, barrel support, and the hilt. The latter exists in a left and right version; the barrel parts are symmetrical and fit both!
Printing is possible on a 20cm bed. Check the unpainted pictures for print orientation. I had massive difficulties printing the hilt with auto-generated supports in Cura, so I added a custom support file that you can load into Cura (and likely other software) and use it instead of an auto-generated support.
The small holes in the barrel back (4), barrel support (1) and hilt (5) are meant to take in magnets for additional “click”. One might also want to try printed cylinders that hold the parts together, I’m not sure whats better.
Both left and right hilt also comes in two versions, one with a cutout in the bottom, and one without. Reason: I figured one can insert a 18mm steel rod into the barrel, and as counterweight one can add some stell into the cutout in the hilt.
This additional weight is nice for realism (even if you can’t reach the massive real world 2kg of the original), and also improves on your workout.
The idea for the hammer and the little pin is that you can add the hammer post-printing to push against the home/settings button on the controller. I have never really printed those and just used a fitting pencil to push against the button when needed, as the games I currently play don’t really need me to access those buttons. Home button can be convenient, though.
This thing is by far not done, which is why I included the Blender file so you can easily modify things further. It’s all a bit complicated, but I get one can understand.
