Dino-Clip Mechanical CAM Chip-Clip

Dino-Clip Mechanical CAM Chip-Clip

I am so totally impressed with Andrei’s Bag Clip. It is one of the most clever designs I have ever printed. From the moment I took it off the printer, I wanted to completely understand how it worked and how Andrei designed it. I spent weeks building his design up in Solidworks, trying to understand the math involved in the CAM mechanism. Once I had his model rebuilt, I then started playing and having fun with tweaks and changes. You will notice the v3.04 on the inside of the lever; there were a LOT of versions.

In addition to the obvious change of giving the clip a dinosaur theme, I also:

Designed a Break-Away support tab (Easier to slice and remove supports after printing)
Increased the two post sizes to 8.5mm (Stronger clip is harder to break)
Added a chamfer to the base/top of the posts (Makes breaking parts loose easier after printing)
Added a completely different ‘teeth’ design (aesthetics and gripping the bag better)

Printing: I print these clips with a .2mm layer thickness at 20% and they are very strong. I’ve included two GCODE files for PLA which is what I print all mine in.

Tips:

After printing, break off the support, and squeeze the entire print like you are closing a nutcracker.
The further you put the bag into the Dino’s mouth, the harder it is to shut. If you have a really thick bag, don’t put it all the way in. Finding the right jaw strength was one of the causes of many versions.
The best materials I’ve found to use are matte PLA’s – My favorite is Joel’s High Five Blue (pictured) from Proto Pasta.

Update 04/25/21: I have uploaded the STL’s for multi-color, the MK3S-MMU2 .gcode, and the SLIC3R Project files for both a single print and printing a lot of five clips. The MMU2 uses the first three positions. Have a look at the attached image for reference of which color is where: Purple MMU2 position #1, Blue MMU2 position #2, Orange MMU2 position #3

IMPORTANT NOTES: The Multi-Color STLs are only for multi-color printers. They can not be printed separately and assembled. This design is PRINT-IN-PLACE only. Secondly, I have had a lot of issues printing multi-color. Make sure your print bed is very clean. Whatever your cleaning process, I suggest you do it before this print.
