iPhone earphone wrap – optimized for Prusa MK3/MK3S

iPhone earphone wrap - optimized for Prusa MK3/MK3S

Needed something to hold my earpods.
Printed up nice and worked well, (once I removed the text in MeshMixer) but I wanted to make a little adjustment to make the lightning connector lightly press fit into its holder. I achieved this by adding a small bump into the lightning connector holder so that it requires light pressure to push it in – which keeps it from falling out.

I found a remix
– which had been remodeled in Fusion 360 – score! – but then I discovered it was done without history enabled so I couldn’t really adjust it like i normally would with a Fusion 360 model.

So, as usual, I wound up redesigning it, but this time not quite from scratch. I was able to use the profile from MarceloAMS’s Fusion work, and I then rebuilt it optimized for my Prusa MK3S. Using PrusaSlicer and a layer thickness of 0.3mm, a wall thickness of 2.01mm results in exactly four shells – and this results in a nice, fast print. You can find these recommendations in PrusaSlicer – or Slic3r – under Print Settings… Layers and Perimeters… Vertical Shells… Perimeters.

With all the walls redesigned for 2.01mm thickness, PrusaSlicer projects a 55min print, compared to 1:08 for the original thing. Not a huge improvement, but it’s an improvement, and I’m impatient. If you are even more impatient, go to the Filament Settings tab, choose Cooling, make sure you’re in Expert mode, and clear the “Slow down if layer print time is below:” field – this will drop print time to 26 minutes!
