Modern Soap Dish with Removable Collection Tray

Modern Soap Dish with Removable Collection Tray

I decided to have some fun with the Soap Dish challenge, and design something that hit both the form and function while being incredibly easy to print – and I like how it turned out enough that I’m going to use this in my own home!

I started with some research into the different types of soap dishes, and objective listings of the ‘best’ in each category. In terms of type, self-draining and catchment dishes were both reviewed quite favorable – as they provided means of handling runoff. As not all sinks/washrooms are configured for a self-draining soap dish – I decided to go with a catchment design, to be useful for the most people.

In the ratings, I also saw a fairly consistent modern design trend for a ‘rib bone’ look. This achieves both a nice visual, and a way to ensure airflow around the soap so that it dries quickly and can have a longer life. The wave pattern of my model’s platform is informed by this – using narrow ribs to allow for more surface area of the soap to be exposed to air.
