SELFIE-STIK

This ‘Selfie-Stik’ is completely 3D printed in multiple parts. It’s easy to assemble, folds away to a compact size that fits in the palm of your hand but extends out to approx. 37.5cm in length. Use in conjunction with the self timer function included on almost all mobile phones (i.e. does not include a mechanism to push the button to take a photo)

This is a practical low cost way of having a compact, lightweight selfie stick on hand when you need it… and it works great if well printed and assembled. However, to achieve a great result, you need a well set up / accurate machine, precise slicing app and to use high infill to make it strong.

When you’ve printed and assembled your Selfie-Stik insert your phone and tighten the bolt against it with a moderate pressure (but not enough to damage the phone). This should hold your phone securely in place… then set your phones self timer and start taking selfies.

Please note that the angles designed into the self stick make it appear to bend backwards slightly plus the phone mount is also angled backwards. This is necessary to ensure the handle is out of the image area so is not visible in your selfies.

As a precaution, start by printing a couple of the smaller parts and pins first and check they fit together well, they rotate, the threads are clean / precise so they screw in as required and can be lightly tightened. Assuming all is okay continue to print the remaining parts and finish your assembly.

At first use the Selfie-Stik may seem quite flexible and lacking in strength. However, PLA is very brittle and strong so, unless you exert excessive pressure on it, a well printed Selfie-Stik with high infill applied should do a great job.

Please refer to the print settings provide and images for additional information. If you print your own Selfie-Stik please post images for other members to see.

Print one of each part with the exception of the pins. You need to print 5 pins in total.
Post-Printing

A small amount of assembly required… it’s easy!

Refer to the images for assembly instructions.

Well printed parts should slide / screw together easily. The pins can be glued in place if you want to ensure your Selfie-Stik never comes apart. Applying a light lubricant to the moving surfaces will help make the folding action easy and smooth.

A small amount of force should be necessary to clip the Selfie-Stik closed. Refer to he images for details.

Do not over tighten the pins or you risk wrecking the printed threads… it is just plastic!

Once your Selfie -Stik has been assembled insert your phone and gently tighten the bolt against it until it is securely held in place. Use with the self timer on your phone.
