To achieve the exposed hexagon pattern, I oriented the part on it’s side and used 10% Honeycomb infill with no top solid or bottom solid layers. I also used 5 perimeters to ensure the thin sections would be completely solid (the exact number needed depends on several variables.) This was done in Slic3r PE, but I’m sure other slicers will work.
Try playing with other infill styles for different visual effects!
