Magnetic Chess Set

Magnetic Chess Set 3d model

There are many parts needed for this model. In addition to all of the 3D printed parts, you will also need magnets. I recommend using these ones: https://a.co/d/5B47P0f (the size is perfect). If using other magnets, verify that they will fit. The holes are 2mm tall and 1cm in diameter.

For the pieces:
If you choose to print the set of pieces, make sure to print two of them (one in each color). I recommend this method.

If printing individually, print:
16 pawns
8 in each color
2 queens
1 in each color
2 kings
1 in each color
4 bishops
2 in each color
4 rooks
2 in each color
4 knights
2 in each color

Once all of the pieces are printed, place magnets in the bottom and secure with hot glue or super glue. PAY ATTENTION TO THE ATTRACTION

For the board:
As you can see in the model list, I have 3 parts for the board:

The white board pieces
The black board pieces
The board base

For the board pieces, it doesn’t actually matter which color you print them in as long as you print one of each.

You will need to print all of these board parts separately unless you have an extraordinarily large print plate.

Once the board base is printed, place magnets in each hole. Pay attention to how the magnets attract – the pieces will magnet to this eventually. Secure with glue.

Attach one set of board pieces to the board base. MAKE SURE THEY ARE ALIGNED IN THE CORNER! I recommend using super glue or hot glue. If using hot glue, use very little. If you use too much, it will leak out the edges and complicate putting in the next set. Glue is only needed on the pieces at the edge – the center ones will stay.

You can then insert the next set of pieces. You should be able to simply push it in, but I recommend still gluing it in. Glue is only needed on the edge pieces.

Once all of these steps are complete, you are ready to play. If any of the magnets on pieces are pushed away by the board, flip the magnets over.

Each set of board pieces should stay together after printing – be careful, they may fall apart. If they don’t stay together, please let me know in the comments and I will do my best to fix it.
