Why are there so many “Cute Articulated Baby animal name” designs on Thingiverse? Dragons especially?
Hmm, you know what even cooler than the Dragon? Starship!
This 3D printing model is a small, minimalistic and adorable representation of the huge, complex and brutal (but still adorable) SpaceX’s Starship.
It’s fully compatible with Articulated SuperHeavy Booster!
The design consists of two parts:
StarshipBody.stl – The main body part, with 4 articulated flaps/wings (print-in-place). Should be printed on its belly (the model is already in optimized orientation). Require supports only for the middle part. Joints do not need supports!
StarshipBlack.stl – The heat-shielded belly with attached engine block and a large front window. Should be printed on its engines, vertically (model is already in optimized orientation). No supports needed.
There are also files with additional built-in “texturing”: “StarshipBody_WithXs.stl” has an additional X logo on both sides, and “StarshipBlack_WithTiles.stl” features hexagonal heat-shield tiles on the belly.
After printing both parts, you can interlock them together. To do this, insert the belly part into the main body at a 45° angle. There is a small clearance (0.1mm) between the two parts. It is big enough to allow easy insertion but small enough to prevent them from falling apart accidentally.
Waiting for the day when this baby grows into a full 50-meter-high interplanetary steel beast!
Note: this design does not aim to be an exact detailed recreation of any particular iteration of actual SpaceX’s rocket. Just a stylized version of the whole system in general.
